Breast Cancer Awareness Uniforms: How Schools and Clubs Go Pink in October
Every October, schools, clubs and leagues across the United States turn their fields and courts pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. “Pink Out” games, pink jerseys, socks and warm-up shirts have become a tradition from youth leagues to high school varsity teams. For many programmes, it is one of the most meaningful games of the season.
Why teams wear pink
Wearing pink shows support for players’ families, coaches and community members affected by breast cancer. Many teams pair their pink game with fundraising, such as selling pink T-shirts to fans or collecting donations at the gate for a breast cancer charity.
Popular breast cancer awareness team gear
- Pink or pink-accent game jerseys for football, soccer, volleyball, basketball and flag football
- Pink socks, sleeves and compression wear, an easy way to add pink to existing uniforms
- Warm-up and shooting shirts with the pink ribbon and team logo
- Fan T-shirts and hoodies for parents and students, often sold to raise funds
- Caps, beanies and headbands with pink ribbon embroidery
- Coach and staff polos with pink accents
Design ideas
- Keep team colours and add pink trim, numbers or ribbon details
- Add the pink ribbon to the sleeve, collar or back neck
- Add a message such as “Tackle Cancer”, “Dig Pink” or “Play for Pink” on the back
- Use names of survivors or loved ones on a special patch or sleeve print
With sublimation, pink designs, ribbons and messages cost no more to print than a plain jersey, and names and numbers are built into the fabric.
Raising funds with awareness gear
Many schools and clubs sell pink fan shirts before their awareness game and donate part of the proceeds to a breast cancer charity. Taking pre-orders before production keeps costs low and avoids leftover stock. If you plan to advertise a donation, be clear about which charity and how much of each sale is donated.
Plan ahead for next October
Pink games are usually scheduled at the start of the season, but orders often arrive late because everyone focuses on regular uniforms first. The best time to order awareness gear is in summer, together with your fall uniforms. Adding pink items to your main order lowers your price per piece and makes sure everything arrives in time.
